Management of heritage to promote social cohesion and stimulate inclusive economic growth.
The KwaZulu-Natal Amafa and Research Institute (The Institute) is the provincial heritage resources authority (PHRA) for KwaZulu Natal. Amafa, the predecessor to The Institute, was established as a statutory body in terms of the KZN Heritage Act of 1997, replaced by the KZN Heritage Act of 2008. The Institute became the official PHRA on the 14 December 2018 when the new KwaZulu-Natal Amafa and Research Institute Act (5 of 2018) was Gazetted.
